DescriptionAssociated closed vambraces. These have a 'key' border as a secondary motif in contrast to the guilloche in other parts of the harness. The primary motif has a connecting bar between the addorsed crescents; elsewhere the crescents touch. The turned edges are unroped.

Upper cannon of three lames, the lower two rotating. Heart-shaped closed couters of three lames. Lower cannons of two longitudinal halves, hinged and secured shut with a hole snapping over a peg on the inner face. Loss to lower cannon of proper right noted above. Decoration of vambraces (and gauntlets) differ from other components. The addorsed Cs are spaced widely and connected by a strap, producing an "H" effect. The edges are bordered with a repeated semi-crenellated motif, bordered with thin, black lines. The bands appear to have been re-embossed and gilt/etched later. Repairs as noted. A few original, brass-capped rivets remain.
Provenance(Possibly) Herberstein family, Eggenberg Castle (possibly) M. Bachereau (Paris) Mr. Oliver H. P. Belmont (NYC) ex-collection Mr. Clarence H. Mackay (Roslyn, L.I.). Purchased by the Museum through Jacques Seligmann & Co. (NYC), agents for the estate of Clarence H. Mackay on 1 April 1940. Their number A-14/104. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
