DescriptionGerman, circa 1525-30; only the left is original. Of mitten form, of four downward overlapping phalangeal lames, second from end is restored) bracket-cut, with associated curved terminal lame itself with inwardly turned and roped edge, and a single plain sunken border, cusped at the medial line, and filled with lining rivets. A transversely embossed and roped knuckle plate bracket-cut on both edges connects the plates to the metacarpal defense of five upward overlapping lames with bracket-cut edges and medial ridge.
The main plate is transversely pierced at the medial area with a pair of holes, probably once with brass rosettes for points; there is also an associated hinged thumb defense of one lame.
The cuff is slightly flaring with a straight, inwardly turned and roped edge, and is of two pieces, the inner plate hinged at the outer face and secured on the inner by a hole snapping over a restored stud. The cuff has a double, sunken plain border, the raised area of which are edged with incised lines. The border is cusped at the medial ridge.
