Label TextSome of the most splendid male costumes appear in historical dramas dealing with the lives of the powerful leaders of the military class that ruled Japan from 1185 to 1868. Frequently exaggerated versions of their actual counterparts, costumes such as this one are associated with the ceremonial costume of the warrior class.
Given to the museum about fifty years ago, this Kabuki costume lay forgotten until it was "rediscovered" by our new registrar in 1984.
