DescriptionA well patinated throwing-club. Head of burl or rootwood, haft snugly socketed into the base of head. The grip is incised in a typically Fijian zig-zag pattern; there is a hole in the base for a wrist-strap.
ProvenancePossibly acquired from the Marquesas Islands in 1829 by Rev. William Phipps of Paxton; then acquired by EcoTarium in (possibly) 1864 via Phipps; Object rediscovered by EcoTarium in 2016 and logged as abandoned property; EcoTarium disposed of object in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 200B: Disposition of Museum Property and donated the object to the Worcester Art Museum in 2020.
