Label TextAnderson & Low describe Voyages as a series that “explores the relationship between fantasy, artifice, and perceived reality, pushing the boundaries of what a photograph is ‘supposed to do,’ and relating these concepts to art history.”
The ships in Voyages are models that primarily reside on storage shelves in the vaults of London’s Science Museum. The collaborators delighted in the dreamlike appearance of the vessels packaged in translucent plastic sheets. They photographed the historic boats and ships in situ, still covered by their packing materials. The images resemble atmospheric seascapes, summoning associations with 17th-century Dutch paintings like the Worcester Art Museum’s Storm at Sea (about 1675) by Willem van de Velde II.On View
