Gift of Mrs. Robert W. Stoddard, 1989.91
Robert Stoddard was a fishing and hunting enthusiast, and so it is no surprise that a work such as this would have been part of his collection. Benson, best known as a leader of the Boston School and a founding member of The Ten American painters, was also an accomplished printmaker. Known for his prints of birds and hunters, Benson favored the drypoint medium, which gives a rich, velvety effect to his work.
