Label TextIn the generation following Romanists like Frans Floris and Maerten van Heemskerck, Blocklandt popularized the ultra-stylish Mannerism in the Low Countries. The son of the Mayor of Montfort, he studied with Hendrick Sweersz. then Frans Floris before traveling to Italy in 1572. When he returned to Utrecht, he had developed a distinctive style derived from Parmigianino’s, of attenuated, bulbous figures with tiny extremities. Blocklandt was most influential as a draftsman and print designer. Goltzius produced several prints after his death, perhaps hoping to exploit his fame.ProvenanceAchilles Ryhiner-Delon;John and Alice Steiner;Richard Berman, New York, NY
