Label TextInspired by the Greek myth, Lipchitz interpreted this classical story through modern psychology. Half-man and half-bull, the Minotaur lived in a mazelike labyrinth. To keep him at bay, the Athenians had to sacrifice their children. Determined to slay the beast, Theseus pursued him, doling out string to mark his way out of the labyrinth. Lipchitz melds the combatants into one dynamic figure, thus evoking the theme of internal struggle.ProvenancePurchased from Bucholz Gallery, New YorkOn View
