Label TextThis small genre painting—a scene of everyday life—was originally attributed to the better-known French painter Jean Baptiste-Greuze, whose work can be seen in this gallery. Bilcoq, a follower of Greuze, created numerous light-hearted, domestic interiors populated by working class women attending to daily tasks. The subject reflects the influence of 17th-century Dutch genre painting on French painters a century later.ProvenanceR.P.
