Descriptionone of twenty-nine sections of a large retable chiefly dedicated to St. Michael and St. Peter thought to have originally been in the parish church of Chiva de Morella in Maestrazzo district of Aragon. Other panels from the same retable are in the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts, Hispanic Society, New York, Private Collection in Montreal. (exhibition catalogue, Images of the Saints, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, March 5-April 4, 1965)Label Text2/24/2016: All four Gospels in the New Testament describe Christ's triumphal entrance into Jerusalem on a donkey, accompanied by his disciples, while onlookers lay down their cloaks as a sign of respect. This work was originally in the lower part of a large altarpiece dedicated to Christ's mother, the Virgin Mary, in Morella, eastern Spain. For years, the painting was attributed to Domingo Valls, another painter in the region, but recent research has identified the artist as Lembrì.ProvenanceJohn Levy Gallery (New York, NY), sold the to Worcester Art Museum, 1924.
