White designs on a dark blue (indigo) ground are most common. This cloth ws dyed in a technique called e-kasuri, in which a reserve pattern is created by tie-dying the thread before weaving. This technique is better known by its Indonesian name ikat. The carp design indicates this was part of a man's garment.
