DescriptionA rectangular piece of dense limestone, originally from a Chinese tomb, depicts two separate scenes. The scene on the upper-half of the stone shows various figures and animals in a pavillion. The scene on the bottom-half of the stone shows dancers, tumblers and musicians performing. Both scenes are framed by a geometric ornamented border.
ProvenanceAcquired in 1936 by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston from the Smithsonian Institute-Museum of the Fine Arts Chinese Expedition, 1923-1924. Acquired by the Worcester Art Museum in 1954 via Purchase, not by excavation.
