Descriptionoban pentaptychLabel TextToyokuni presents a scene of the bustling life on Nakanocho, the main street at the entrance gate of the Yoshiwara pleasure quarters. It is the cherry blossom festival and in anticipation of the evening’s activities high-ranking courtesans with attendants are seen parading to greet important clients; geisha and servants are also hurrying to the houses of assignation to provide entertainment and food. A few businessmen, samurai and monks visiting the Yoshiwara try to hide their identities with black overcoats, head-coverings and fans.
