Descriptionpossibly a commentary on a musical modeLabel TextThe floral scroll at the lower margin and the stylized floral design on the architecture are characteristic of Malwa school painting. In this painting, the delicate lines of the border are cleverly echoed by the floral scroll which decorates the architecture. The Dipaka (light or lamp) Raga, a musical mode which occurs after the evening lamps are lit, is here illustrated by the amorous encounter of a prince and his lover, who is somewhat bashful about the prince’s aggressive attentions.ProvenanceKevorkian Foundation, New York NY
