DescriptionAyudhya style
Label TextThe Buddha with both hands raised in the gesture of “restraining the waters,” refers to an event where he stopped a flood, as well as referring to a general gesture of reassurance. Buddha wears the style of monastic robe that covers both shoulders and a belt that holds a frontal flap. The treatment of the head with distinct arching brow ridges above the eyes and the body-defined drapery follow the conventions of the Ayutthaya style. The Kingdom of Ayutthaya in central Thailand flourished from the 1300s to the 1700s and was one of the largest and most important kingdoms and trading centers in Southeast Asia.
