Label TextAn Italian immigrant, Stella became a successful illustrator in New York. On a visit to Paris in 1910, he was impressed by the Futurist exhibition, and may have met leaders of the style Umberto Boccioni and Gino Severini. Stella brought Futurism back to the United States in 1911. Two years later his work was featured in the influential Armory Show in New York. This is one example from a series of delicate studies of plants, flowers, and fruits done at the Bronx Botanical garden that Stella sometimes used for his paintings.ProvenanceSergio Stella, nephew of artist; purchased from Richard York Gallery, 21 East 65th Street, New York, NY 10021
