Label TextTwo adjoining folios from a "Double Divan", the collected works of two Persian poets combined. One poet's poems are written in the center of the page; the other's are in the surrounding border. The poetry is surrounded bya rose border illuminated in gold, with a design of various animals in foliage.
The love poems written here in the calligraphic style called nastaliq are by Amir Shahi Sabzivar (died 1453) and Ahi Chagatai (died 1521). They are in ghazal form based on a conventional rhyme scheme (including the poet's name at the end) and are addressed to boys.ProvenanceGift of Mr. and Mrs. Karl L. Briel, Millbury, MAOn View
