Label TextBone, rather than ivory, was the carving material preferred by the Venetian workshop established by Baldassare degli Embriachi. These two soldiers were most likely part of a battle scene from the myth of Jason and the Golden Fleece. The Embriachi craftsmen also depicted religious themes, often joining large numbers of bone plaques to build a substantial altarpiece.ProvenancePhilip J. Gentner, FlorenceOn View
