Label TextIllustration from vol. I of Ehon Tokiwagusa (A Picture Book of Evergreens); signed sakusha gako (author and conceiver) Bunkado Nishikawa Sukenobu (1671-1751); carvers Fujimura Zen'emon and Murakami Gen'emon of Osaka; preface dated 1730 (Kyoho 15); issued by Morita Shotaro of Osaka in the 8th month 1731 (Kyoho 16). A woman of the common people in the street just outside the gate to her dwelling, accompanied by three other women and a maid who is carrying a bundle wrapped in a fukusa. All are in holiday attire. With this picture Sukenobu turns to his own style and since he is not now depicting court ladies of the olden time but people of lesser degree, their garments are such as were work by common people in Kyoto in his day.
