Label TextHead of a king from a statue showing him in the pose of the mummified god Osiris, god of the underworld and rebirth. It was found with a group of eight statues excavate at Armant. These statues were restored and reinscribed by King Merenptah of Dynasty 19, but they originally belonged to King Mentuhotep III. The king wears the white crown of Upper Egypt. Originally the crown was painted white and the skin was painted red. ProvenanceMuseum purchase from Charles D. Kelekian Ancient Art, New York, NY in 1971.
