Label TextDespite its close Mughal alliance, painting at Amber was well within the tradition of contemporary Rajput schools. It was especially noted for its neat geometric compositions, its crisp, clear colors (the red and gold dresses, green garden, and pink molding and bed), and its frequent use of white. While the compartmentalization of the picture is typical of many paintings from Rajasthan, the man’s fixed composure, the women’s flat, receding, veiled hair, and the staccato rhythm of the pointed trees are peculiar to Amber. Mughal influence is evident, however, in the delicate detailing and careful drawing of the figures.ProvenanceAlexander H. Bullock, Worcester MA
