DescriptionStrand of assorted feldspar beads, amulets and a scarab, opaque pale blue-green to deep blue-green in color, some have a slightly transparent jade-like appearance, almost all have rusty-brown veins throughout.Label TextAmazonite, a form of microcline feldspar, was prized for its lively, green color. Like many of the commonly used minerals in Egyptian jewelry, it is an opaque stone whose hue varies in intensity depending on its source. In addition to beads, the gem was carved into a wide range of amulets. This grouping of amulets includes a scarab, stylized hawks, the goddess Taweret, and a crouched sphinx.ProvenanceFormerly of Mrs. Kingsmill Marrs Collection; bequeathed by Mrs. Kingsmill Marrs to the Worcester Art Museum, 1925–1926.
