Label TextDuring the early Mughal period (1526-1857) at least five hundred different dishes were considered essential to the daily meals at the royal table. each guest was served wth his own thali, made of silver and gold. After the guest had finished, attendants brought silver basins filled with fragrant leaves and poured warm water from exquisite ewers as the guests washed their right hands, the hand used for eating. Fresh cloths were laid on the tables and the guests were offered sweetmeats on thali like thse seen here. Seasonal fruit and tea completed the meal.ProvenancePurchase from Peter Marks, New York, NY
