Label TextDuring the Mughal period (1526-1857) at least five hundred different dishes were considered essential to the daily meals at the royal table. each guest was served with his own thali, made of silver or gold. After the guest had finished, attendants brought silver basins filled with fragrant leaves and poured warm water as guests washed their right hands, the hand used for eating. Fresh cloths were laid on the tables, and the guests were offered sweetmeats on thali like those seen here. Seasonal fruit and tea complemented the meal.On View
