Label TextMonet first visited England in 1870. Between 1899 and 1901 he spent each winter in London, taking a room at the Savoy Hotel, which overlooked the Thames. Views of the river recur in his work as late as 1904, as he continued to rework the theme from memory. This version, painted in 1903, shows the artist's fascination with London's smoky, hazy atmosphere.
This painting is sponsored through December 2017 by J. Christopher and Catherine Collins in honor of their children Sarah A. Collins and Daniel P. Collins and their dear friends Anthony Perry and Carolyn Henderson.
