DescriptionOctagonal shape, dark brown glaze. Noted as Chinese on list.Label TextDepending on the amounts of iron and other metallic oxides, iron-rich monochrome glazes of lighter and darker shades were produced at Jingdezhen, ranging from yellowish tans to reddish browns and very dark browns. The octagonal shape of this vase was first developed in the Jiaqing period but it continued to be popular until the end of the Qing dynasty. Its appealing form was emphasized by deliberately rubbing the glaze thin at the joins, where the planes intersect.ProvenanceWilder D. Bancroft, Ithaca, NY
