Descriptionstring of carnelian beads and assorted pendantsLabel TextCarnelian was readily available in ancient Egypt and was used in jewelry manufacture over the course of its long history. It was used to make beads, inlays, and several talismanic forms, including the heart (ib) and Girdle of Isis (tit) amulets. Spherical, biconical, barrel, and lentoid shapes were popular carnelian bead types during the Middle Kingdom.ProvenanceFormerly of Mrs. Kingsmill Marrs Collection; bequeathed by Mrs. Kingsmill Marrs to the Worcester Art Museum, 1925–1926 as 1925.637; transformed in 2001 through conservation work.
