Label TextSculptor, installation artist, and photographer, Anne Arden McDonald is best known for her self-portraits. As a teenager in Georgia, she began to photograph herself in the landscape and in abandoned interiors, staging performances for the camera to represent different aspects of her personality.
Calling her work “part ritual, part dance, and part daydream,” McDonald often attempts to portray her fantasy of flying, as she does in this photograph. As the artist developed this series over fifteen years, the elaborate settings and chimeric activity gradually took over her own likeness.
