For A Million Sunsets, Welitoff altered footage from original documentary films of Joe Lewis (including his first-round knockout of German, Max Schmeling, in 1938). Stripped of the usual accompanying sounds, unnaturally colorized, and its focus destabilized, Welitoff’s short repeated action transforms specific realities into a hypnotic, highly choreographed dance of color and form across the screen.
