Label TextThis is an unretouched proof of a pivotal shot from Avedon’s session with Streisand for a "Harper’s Bazaar" magazine spread that appeared in December 1965. It was the first of several times that he worked with the Grammy, Emmy, and Oscar-winning singer and actress. Two other photographs from the shoot were used for the cover of Streisand’s album "Je m’appelle Barbra," released in 1966. The preeminent fashion photographer of his generation, Avedon had begun to concentrate on portraits in which he used light and austere studio settings to reveal his sitters’ unique personalities.On View
