Label TextJust eight years after President Kennedy announced the intention to send Americans safely to the Moon and back, Apollo 11 attained the goal. The staged spacecraft traveled three days to lunar orbit. Michael Collins piloted the Command Module while his colleagues, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, descended to the surface. Armstrong stepped onto the Moon on July 20, 1969, with the words “that’s one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind.” In over two hours outside the spacecraft, they planted the American flag, and made scientific observations. On View
