Label TextThis rather late example of a halberd hearkens back to the stout, businesslike design of halberds of the Middle Ages. Similar weapons had helped the Swiss win their independence from Austria, and by the 1600s they had acquired a historical symbolism similar to that of the Minuteman's musket to modern Americans.ProvenanceCollection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
