DescriptionSteel crescentic single-edge blade. Back of blade tapers to oval socket open for circular-section long wooden haft with bone or ivory butt ferrule. Socket of head fits over a cylindrical sleeve of iron, the top of which is cut with deep decorative saw-tooth cuts expanding around slightly domed top of haft. Lower edge of sleeve cut with notches.ProvenanceOn permanent loan from Andover Newton Theological School (Andover, MA) on 22 March 1946; a formal gift from the school on 22 September 1999. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
