DescriptionIron, moderate size & heavy. Ovoid & circular in section, axially deeply ribbed with fine rib in recesses. Tapers to oblate integral button with 4-sided plinth whose corners are carved as crude volutes. Similar treatment appears on plinth opposite, with short, flaring base. Axially pierced for oblong tang.ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on September 28, 1929 from estate of Dr. Bashford Dean (Riverdale, New York), his # 63. Given to the Museum July 1, 1954. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
