DescriptionAssociated with breastplate. Black-painted steel. Part of a pair with 2014.654.4. Apparently restored, of form for heavy infantry armor, ca. 1620-30. It is trapezoidal, with rounded basal corners & embossed to simulate 5 lames, with false rivets & 2 (old) buckles at top.
ProvenanceArchduke Eugen's Armory, Fortress Hohenwerfen, Salzburg, Austria purchased by John W. Higgins on March 1, 1927 from Anderson Galleries (NY), their no. 103. Given to the Museum on December 26, 1946. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
