DescriptionRussetted iron. Of "somen" type, in 2 halves, lower covering cheeks & acutely pointed chin, with narrow flange below for lost yodare-kake (gorget plates). Upper half formed with forehead, eyes & nose, mustache, & held with pins to cheeks. Embossed with eyebrows & lids, & wrinkles in the "skin." Interior red-lacquered.
ProvenancePurchased by the Museum on 7 March 1934, from Mr. Robert T. Hatt (New York City), as part of suit HAM# 2046.1-7. Paid $35.00 for lot. Mr. Hatt stated he purchased the suit in Paris, France. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
