DescriptionFlat blade, irregularly fan-shaped with thickened ridge at tip & bottom, curving down & towards hollow socket for handle. Opposite the blade, 4 finger-like projections joined together 0.015 cm. from socket. Socket with 4 raised moldings which are ornamented with incisions. 1 ridge on each side extends half-way down blade & forms arrow-shape at tip.
Label TextThe complex shape reflects advanced bronzeworking technology. The angle of the blade would actually have made this a piercing rather than a chopping weapon, perhaps accounting for the broken tip, and possibly implying use against opponents with some kind of armor.ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins from A. Durand, 17 Rue de Tournon, [Paris?] on August 29, 1933. Given to the Armory on December 26, 1946. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
