DescriptionDouble-edge blade tapering to acute point with 4 sets of chevronic flutes & silver-plated steel reinforcing plate on both faces, riveted to blade. Gauntlet-like hilt composed of 2 pieces of riveted steel giving appearance of 2 panels. Cuff of gauntlet curves upward & terminates in dragon's head. "H"-shaped grip with side bars that widen to trefoils at end, topped with knob. Grip of hilt is 2 bars with swollen centers with small disk at each end at joint with side bars. Outer surfaces of hilt & reinforcing plates are silver-plated.
ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on April 3, 1929 from Daniel Z. Norrian (NY). Given to the Museum on January 8, 1947. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
