DescriptionDesigned to go over a helmet of the type that rotates on the gorget. Consists of jawplate with 3 collar lames. 5 pairs lacing holes around the lowest lame of the neck-guard. This lame sits rather awkwardly on the one above, and all these lames may be associated with the mainplate. There are paired holes at the rotation channel, perhaps for a now-lost strap; most of the holes above this point are recent or at least altered. There is a welded repair at the center of the face-opening. Some deformation of the face opening, perhaps due to compositing; the edge of the opening has also been cut down in relatively recent times.

The left cheek is deeper than the R; some of the asymmetry is purposeful, though some could be from deformation, perhaps in the process of compositing.
ProvenanceEx-collection Princes Radziwill Bashford Dean Clarence H. Mackay (Roslyn, LI) Purchased by Museum on July 18, 1939 from Jacques Seligmann & C0. (NYC), agents for the estate of Clarence H. Mackay. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
