DescriptionSteel, with modern leathers. 3 plates front & rear, topmost lames with cabled angular inward turn. Frontplate with low medial ridge notched above & terminated in blunt point below. Rearplate beaten down over tops of shoulders, with level basal edge. Neck lames associated, & topmost rear possibly restored.

Roughly made holes & cut edges, & positions of spaudler leathers suggest defense once without latter. Empty holes atop shoulders probably once held pauldron straps or posts.

Attached, associated spaudlers of 5 lames each. Low medial ridge full length; edges here bracket-cut, with traces of etched line following edge. Side edges hollow-flanged, with narrow, shallow recessed band. Terminal lame with turned, roped edge followed by double-recessed band rising into cusp at mid-width. Pierced (later) with large hole for post. Buckle & straps at ends. 4th lame up on proper right defense is reworked association. That above seems to be moved up 1 lame. Anterior end of defense with short leather & stud to lock into T-shaped slot on frontplate.
ProvenanceGuy F. Laking (London) Clarence H. Mackay (Roslyn, L.I.), his A-24 Jacques Seligmann & Company (NYC). Card file states ex (Oliver H.P.) Paid $500 for suit. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
