DescriptionProper left en suite with pauldron. Loosely similar in form to R vambrace but not a match; etching entirely different.Rerebrace of upper and lower cannons. One-piece riveted upper cannon embossed for rotating flange of lower cannon. Outer face fitted with turning-pin for pauldron. Upper border inwardly rolled and roped. Lower cannon border at elbow plain, not rolled. Elbow-cop is of three articulated lames; no assembly marks. Closed-cowters side-wing riveted on inner face, outer decorated with classically armed warriors; borders rolled, roped. Vambrace of two hinged halves secured by hole snapping over a peg. Border rolled, roped except at elbow.
Etched design of intertwined nude figures, strapwork with foliate sprays. Etching matches that of the right pauldron.
ProvenanceFelix Joubert of London sold to Clarence H. Mackay in 1922. Purchased by John W. Higgins from Jacques Seligman & Co., NY (agents for Mackay) on 18 July 1939. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
