DescriptionProper left etched en suite with lower arm defense. Of eight metacarpal lames with "u"-shaped nicks on edges; knuckle lame transversely embossed with a single raised rib; one-piece flaring cuff, riveted on inner face. Thumb of four lames is restored, likewise little finger (of five lames); index is old, but associated; remainder are lacking. Decoration matches other components; this may be the element that the others were made to match--the L vambrace and R pauldron were probably etched in the late 1800s to match this element, though its etching may not be much earlier.ProvenanceFelix Joubert of London sold to Clarence H. Mackay in 1922. Purchased by John W. Higgins from Jacques Seligman & Co., NY (agents for Mackay) on 18 July 1939. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
