DescriptionConsists of one-piece skull (with extension plate at nape of the neck), visor, and bevor. Skull has pairs of lacing holes at L and R occiput; brass plume-pipe; a hole near the apex of the comb. It retains a leather lining band and some leather strapping (probably 19c or later). The visor has holes for a lifting-peg and securing catch to the bevor, but neither element survives. It has very heavy scored lines across the midpoint of the sight step. The bevor bolts to the breastplate at 3 points (2 also with the tilting target) and to the backplate in the center; it features a vent door with a sliding catch. The visor has a hole for a missing lifting-peg.

The bolts securing the helmet to the breast and back are marked with a sequence of 1-4 punched dots, matching similar dots at the securing holes.

The visor and bevor are constructed of at least 2 layers of steel, secured together with flush rivets.
ProvenancePurchased by Museum on April 1, 1940 from Jacques Seligmann & Co. (NYC), agents for the estate of Clarence H. Mackay, dealers# A-13-109. The matching saddle plate HAM #3437 was purchased in November 1967. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
