MarkingsUpper end of nasal with stamped "M" (cf. WAM 2104.1103); point of fall with maker's mark "C [or G] T" above raised dot, all within heart-shaped frame; see digital file. Nick marks at left of flange & front of skull; 8 serial dots in 2 rows of 4 each on left underside of fall.

DescriptionBlack-painted steel. 1-piece, slightly conical, hemispherical ribbed skull with eye at top. Riveted, pointed fall with adjustable nasal secured by wing screw. Flaring nape defense of 4 rivet lames cusped at mid-width. Terminal lame ogivally pointed. Bluntly pointed cheekpieces (one modern) detached from skull.
ProvenanceArchduke Eugen's Armory, Fortress Hohenwerfen, Salzburg, Austria purchased by John W. Higgins on March 2, 1927 from Anderson Galleries (NY), their # 400. Given to the Museum on January 8, 1947. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
