DescriptionLeg defenses in Augsburg fashion of 1570-1590, with brass-capped rivets. Cuisses of two detachable plates, upper with pair of laminations above, curving up and out. Rounded poleyns with oval side-wing and narrow basal lame with keyhole shots for 3/4 closed, restored greaves (possibly English, ca. 1860-79), shaped to leg with no provisions for spurs. Blunt-toed integral sabatons of eleven lames each.

JLF 2009: Left greave foreplate has what could be a trace of the mark of the Augsburg rolling mills, though I agree with WJK's assessment that these look like 19c work. The right greave foreplate and backplate have ( and . marks near the top.
ProvenancePurchased by Museum on November 9, 1940 from Jacques Seligmann & Co. (NYC), agents for estate of Clarence H. Mackay. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, Janaury 2014.
