DescriptionPainted with later blackening. Extensive composite of Austrian, Flemish and German elements.

The cuisses are a bit finer than the pauldrons, and retain traces of their original leather and fabric lining. The bottom lame of the fauld has remains of the original pickadills.
ProvenanceBashford Dean (inv. no. 41) Purchased by John W. Higgins on September 28, 1929 from estate of Dr. Bashford Dean (Riverdale, NY), his number 300 in American Art Association Sale, November 23, 1928. Given to the Museum on December 15, 1931. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
