Label TextThe sleek lines and massive, simplified forms of this horse are characteristics of the work of William Zorach, an artist, teacher and writer who was instrumental in reviving the importance of direct carving in modern American sculpture. Although Zorach preferred to work directly from a wood or stone block to make a unique object, he occasionally modeled a form for a limited-edition casting in bronze, as in this piece, which is one of six examples.
