Label TextBegarelli was the leading sculptor of the Renaissance in his native town of Modena. He executed a number of works for the cathedral there as well as assisting Correggio in his decorations for the cathedral in nearby Parma. Begarelli's sculptural style is parallel to the painting of Correggio in its avoidance of the extreme of the Mannerist style. His work looks forward to the movement and full-bodied figures of the Baroque.ProvenanceAchille de'Clementi, Florence, through Philip J. Gentner
