Descriptionstring of faience disc-shaped, lenticular beads, glazed bright greenish-blue, uniform in size and colorLabel TextClose-fitting necklaces (chokers) composed of lenticular disc beads were often made of blue faience and worn in single or double strands during the New Kingdom. Those made of gold were called shebyu or the Gold of Honor award bestowed by the king on individuals of outstanding merit. Recipients of the award, such as the 18th Dynasty general Horemheb, were often depicted on statues or tomb reliefs wearing the honorific neck piece.ProvenanceFormerly of Mrs. Kingsmill Marrs Collection; bequeathed by Mrs. Kingsmill Marrs to the Worcester Art Museum, 1925–1926.
