Label TextBloemaert’s four sons were his pupils and assistants, who did prints after their father’s designs. Frederick produced a Drawing Manual that reproduced the master’s pen and wash figural sketches in etched line plates shaded with passages printed from wood blocks. Published in several editions, the book helped teach generations of art students. This portrait served as a frontispiece for later editions of the manual. The shop publications helped maintained Bloemaert’s popularity and influence from the Mannerist period into the Golden Age of Dutch painting.ProvenanceMrs. Kingsmill Marrs, Boston, MA
